RIMON for Off The Block Magazine

With an undeniably ethereal feel to her voice, this year has seen RIMON continue her emergence as one of the freshest artists to come out of The Netherlands. Drawing from an eclectic range of sonic influences, from Gil Scott-Heron to Ari Lennox to Nipsey Hussle, and a huge talent for visuals to boot, this is an artist from whom you never quite know what to expect next.

GB Sprinter Ojie Edoburun discusses his platform 'Flotpe' for Gauchoworld

23-year old athlete, Ojie Ebodurun, represents Britain as a track and field sprinter who started his journey after success at the 2013 London Youth Games. However, athletics has been a source of inspirations that led to the establishment of his platform FLOTPE. Through the platform, Ojie works to ‘reshape the way stories are created for sporting individuals’. With the sporting industry almost inevitably limiting the presentation of athletes, FLOTPE documents an intimacy shared from one athlete to another as Ojie works behind the camera. After realising how the freedom of expression was encouraged in other sports, Ojie aimed to create the same transparency. ‘Within athletics, my sports specifically, I don’t feel like there was a space for athletes to actually be themselves, be real and show an unfiltered version of themselves.’ By forming FLOTPE, Ojie contributes to the breakdown of a mainstream and inauthentic representation of his fellow athletes.

Sounds and Riddims with Tiggs Da Author for Nation of Billions

2019 has been a year where showcasing a strong sense of versatility has been the aim for almost every artist in the UK. Looking back at the UK’s charting tracks, we’ve witnessed iconic fusions of UK rap and grime with the sounds of afrobeats, pop, US rap and much more. Combinations have been explored and boundaries have been overruled. Tiggs Da Author evidently adopted this approach way before its time with a discography that transitions through an endless list of genres. Without a doubt, Tiggs Da Author has featured on some of the best bodies of work to come out of the UK in the past years including Nines’s ‘One Foot Out’ and ‘Crop Circle’, J Hus’s ‘Common Sense’ and LD’s ‘The Masked One’. He has proven to be an artist who remains unbound by genre as his afrocentric and soulful vocals bring each track to life, encasing each hook. The recent release of his mixtape ‘MOREFIRE’ continues to champion the collaborative nature of the UK music scene as well as his own musical inspirations.
